Villa was very spacious and loved the location next to the farm. Short drive to Nerja Town and the old town which was beautiful. You definitely need a car. Pool was large and very deep, no shallow end so would be a problem for small children. Villa very tired and very dated. Sunbeds were old and grubby and the chairs on the terrace needed repairing!! The appliances in the kitchen weren't great. The toaster got really hot on the outside, enough to give a nasty burn and The drip through coffee machine leaked. Oven good as was the hob and freezer enough crockery and cutlery but no sharp knives. The double bed was a few steps up from a camp bed and the spare pillows were stained. Bathrooms so dated. We accepted it for what it was and didn't let it stop us having a great time, but this Villa really needs some money spent on it.

Close to the beach, the private splashing pool on the roof terrace of the apartment was a great feature and the larger pool area (shared by the 6 apartments within the community) was great for kids. Hostess XXX even put water and some breakfast items in the fridge since we arrive at night! We defenitely recommend this place to families.

Villa was in a high location overlooking resort. Accessibility was difficult and a bit scary. Views were outstanding, Outside area was clean and spacious. Pool gorgeous. Sunbeds old and need replacing. The villa itself was clean and spacious although kitchen very small. Had all 5 English tv channels on wide screen. Only real negative were the constant presence of black flies in the main bathroom we sprayed and killed about 50 per day but could not find how they got in or where they came from. Would recommend this villa and would return.

A quick overview of Nerja

The resort town of Nerja (meaning 'bountiful spring' in Arabic) sits at the mouth of the famous Rio Chillar River at the eastern tip of the Costa del Sol on the southern coast of Spain. This once sleepy fishing village is today one of the most popular resorts along the coast, with its authentic Andalusian charm, subtropical climate, beautiful dark sand beaches and vibrant cosmopolitan atmosphere. Nerja is the eastern gate to the Costa del Sol, the first glimpse into one of the favourite Spanish Costas. East from the resort are the tourist capitals of the Costa Tropical - La Herradura and Almunecar. There you can find several lovely sand beaches, a couple of water parks and aquariums for kids, an ancient Roman aqueduct for history buffs and loads of nice bars, restaurants and chiringuitos. To venture deeper into the Costa del Sol, proceed west along the coast. In the foothills of the Sierra de Almijara, you can find the town of Torrox gently sloping down to the coast. It’s a proper working town and its quiet resort offers delightful beaches lined with bars, fast food joints and restaurants. Our villas in Nerja put you right in the heart of it all; from its historic centre with traditional streets and whitewashed houses adorned with geraniums, to its golden coastline and varied mountain landscape.

There are no direct flights to Nerja, but Málaga airport is an hour's drive away and less than a 3 hour flight from the UK and mainland Europe.
June to September may see daytime temperatures of up to 30°C, while the average temperature in winter is 14°C.

How to get to Nerja

Nerja is really easy to get to - Málaga airport is less than a 3 hour flight from the UK and mainland Europe and just an hour's drive away from Nerja. When it comes to transfers from the airport to your accommodation, there are plenty of transfer options at the airport, including taxis, buses and coaches. Taxis are metered and the standard fare for the transfer is around 80 Euros. Coaches are a more affordable option, with prices at around 5 Euros for a one way ticket from Malaga to Nerja.

Beach holidays in Nerja

High on everyone’s checklist should be a visit to its glorious sand and pebble beaches, as well as the sheltered coves that pepper its 16 km coastline. With temperatures in the summer reaching 30°C at times, Nerja is a magnet for tourists looking to relax on the beaches of the Costa Del Sol. The clear waters, sheltered rocky landscape and excellent facilities mean that Nerja boasts some of the most family-friendly beaches in the Costa del Sol. Our villas by the coast put you at the heart of it all; from the sun-worshipper’s slice of paradise that is Burriana to the east of town, to the urban and family-friendly beaches of Torrecilla, Calahonda and Carrabeillo. Or escape the crowds and relax on your own patch on the quiet beaches of El Chucho and Maro. Nerja boasts such a wide choice that you could visit a new beach every day of the week if you wanted!

Golfing in Nerja

Spain is the number one golf holiday destination in the world and though it might be difficult to believe, there are no golf courses in Nerja. However, there are a few good ones nearby. The nearest golf courses west of Nerja are 23 kilometres away - the Baviera Golf Courses. The staff there provides great service, greens are well-kept and the course gets increasingly tougher when playing holes 10 to 18. The nearest golf course east of Nerja is Los Moriscos Golf Club - 37 kilometres. The course is mostly flat and the most challenging parts are well-placed bunkers and water hazards.

Things to see and do in Nerja

In the old town, get a taste of the resort's rich history, with its sculptures, monuments and architecture. For spectacular views of the Mediterranean and its beaches, take a walk along the Balcón de Europa, otherwise known as the ‘Balcony of Europe’ - the town's centrepiece. This magnificent promenade along the edge of a towering cliff was once the site of the great Moorish castle. Explore the Sierra de Tejeda mountain range – a Natural Park with exotic flora and fauna, striking limestone rocks and plenty of hiking trails. Popular with families, take a day to explore the otherworldly, Cuevas de Nerja; otherwise known as Nerja Caves, home to the world’s largest 32m high stalagmite! Cuevas de Nerja is about 20 minutes from Nerja’s old town and also has a museum and botanical garden. Take a tour around this stunning underground world and admire its palaeolithic paintings. During the summer many concerts take place here, providing a beautiful backdrop to a night of music and dancing.

Kids activities in Nerja

Nerja is a great destination for a family holiday and beaches in Nerja provide a great deal of fun activities for kids. If they’re too young to drive a Jet ski, banana boat and kayaking might be more up their ally. Let your kids learn about history first hand; there are organised tours and learning activities for children in Nerja Caves. Plus there is a great restaurant nearby with excellent service and amazing food. A quick visit to the replica of La Dorada boat from Verano azul TV series might not be as fun for the kids as it would for the parents who remember the show. Still, it’s a timeless classic and worth being acquainted with. Aquavelis Water Park is a 22 minutes’ drive west from Nerja. It’s great for youngsters with lots of activities and places to have food and drink. But you can bring your own food, it’s allowed. Aquatropic Water Park is a 26 minutes’ drive east from Nerja and it’s packed with activities to keep the kids occupied the whole day.

Getting around Nerja

Hiring a car is one of the option for getting around Nerja and, depending on the company and the car, can cost between 150 and 250 Euros per week. If that’s not your cup of tea, then taxis might be. A standard fare for a transfer from the airport in Malaga to Nerja is around 80 Euros, and that’s a 70 kilometres drive. If you find taxis to be a bit pricey, then no worries. There’s a lovely third option as well, and it’s called Alsa. Alsa is a Spanish bus service with over 20 regular lines a day. They’re inexpensive, reliable and comfortable.

Restaurants in Nerja

A 'tapa' is a Spanish appetiser, and it’s usually a smaller portion of a traditional Spanish dish, but may vary. There are a lot of tapas bars in Nerja, and avoiding them means you’re missing out on some delicious snacks and authentic Spanish experience. One of the best tapas bars in Nerja is definitely La Rienda - friendly atmosphere, good service, and reasonable prices. All kinds of restaurants flourish in Nerja - Chinese, Japanese, Italian. Goa Town and Taste of India are Indian restaurants near El Chorrillo beach with extensive menus, great atmosphere and service. Also near El Chorrillo beach, Little Italy is a charming no-frills restaurant with delicious Italian dishes. However if you want to taste the true Spain, then go for Mediterranean. Ayo is a rough-and-ready Mediterranean restaurant with excellent paella near Burriana beach. Grab a sangria, it goes very well with paella.

Nightlife in Nerja

Whether you like to hit the sack early or very early the next morning, the choice is yours. Nerja offers a very colourful nightlife. Some lovely cocktail bars, like Buddha Lounge Bar and Hemingway's, are great for spending a relaxing evening and still be out for the count by half past 10. To continue larging it up past your bedtime, start at the Plaza Tutti Frutti and set about on a pub crawl or settle at one of many live shows or music venues, like El Burro Blanco Flamenco Bar, open ‘till the small hours. There is also a great choice of nightclubs in Nerja. Sala Rockefeller and SE7EN provide great service and a lively atmosphere. They’re close to Plaza Tutti Frutti and play mostly Latin, House and R&B.

Shopping in Nerja

Most shops in Nerja are situated around the famous Balcony of Europe. Though there are various shops and stores around the town selling all kinds of stuff, they’re mostly boutiques and clothes stores. It’s hard to miss the ones selling upmarket brands, they’re right in your face. What might take a bit more effort is spotting shops with genuine Spanish artisans and handmade items, like Choice of Soraya next to Malibu Lounge Bar in Calle Malaga. Also, some souvenir shops - not the ones displaying T-shirts with generic writings on them - do tend to offer authentic Spanish items and interesting sundries to take back home. Apart from clothes and souvenirs shops, there are also electronic stores with popular brands, supermarkets and several street markets. The most popular street markets are in Urb. Almijara II, selling everything from clothes to fresh produce.
