A trip to Lisbon should be fun and full of great memories for you and your family, but that doesn’t mean it needs to empty your piggy bank. Why not take a look at what you can do in Lisbon for free and prepare for a holiday that won’t break the bank.

1. Visit Costa da Caparica

Costa da Caparica
This popular day trip from Lisbon takes less than an hour to get to and offers an excellent day out at the beach for you and your family. It’s particularly popular among surfers and known to be a good place for beginners so if a little thrill-seeking is your thing then this is the place to be! Of course, for the more sentient among you there’s more than enough opportunity for sunbathing and plenty of lovely coastal walks too. Enjoy!

2. Discover The Church of Sao Roque

Church of Sao Roque
This beautiful Roman Catholic church is a must see for anyone interested in the history of Portugal. Built in the second half of the 16th century it’s a wonderful nod to the architecture of that era, not to mention full of glorious artworks, sculptures and of course a dazzling chapel. The best bit? It’s free to enter, with the fantastic museum next door not costing very much either.

3. Spend A Day In The Estrela Garden

The Estrela Garden
Renowned as one of the most attractive parks in all of Portugal, the Estrela Garden is a wonderful landscaped area that should be on the top of your list of places in Lisbon to visit. Especially lovely in spring and summer, this wonderful green space flaunts a water feature that attracts plenty of wildlife, a café and a bandstand.

4. Take In The Views At Miradouro de Santa Luzia

 Miradouro de Santa Luzia
The undulating nature of Lisbon’s landscape means you’re treated to wonderful views wherever you go, but at certain key points you’ll discover that specialist viewing decks have been created, as with the Miradouro de Santa Luzia. Free and fantastic, this great viewing deck allows you to see sensational views of the Tagus River.

5. Wander Around The Feira da Ladra
