1. Le Cro Portugal - Tapas 

If you're looking for a crowdpleaser, look no further than the tapas at Le Cro Portugal. This good little restaurant offers a refined but top tapas menu right in the heart of Carvoeiro. Served dish by dish by a husband and wife team, our recommendations to look out for include the salmon ceviche, sardine bruschetta and truffled mushrooms. With food that sounds that good, you can see why you need to book in advance. You should also take out cash before your reservation as this place is strictly cash only.

2. L'Orange

L'Orange is a vibrant family-run restaurant with an innovative fusion menu that celebrates European cuisine.  This charming venue has a warm atmosphere across its two restaurant floors; the cheerfully decorated inside and its outdoor flower-adorned terrace. Tripadvisor reviewers rave about the beef curry and apfelstrudel, but honestly, we wouldn't say no to anything on this menu or its wine list. 

3. Vila Nova

Vila Nova in Carvoeiro cooks up a Mediterranean storm. From fresh fish dishes like sea bass to luscious Portuguese steaks, it's no wonder that this restaurant is such a hotspot for visitors. Speaking of hot, spice-lovers will get a kick out of the Piri-Piri king prawns which offer a local twist on a classic starter.  

4. Jota Lita Restaurant

Jota Lita is a great little place near the main strip in Carvoeiro. Tuck into Piri-Piri chicken, grilled sardines and prawn kebabs and wash it down with a glass of Port which is on the house at the end of the meal. A nice touch from a friendly place in town. 

5. Restaurante A Gale

A simple but atmospheric Carvoeiro establishment serving hearty Mediterranean and Portuguese mains. It's advisable to book a table at the weekend, but highlights include the lamb cutlets and their traditional Algarvian seafood cataplana. You'll get the ultimate 'can't get this at home' feeling when they bring out your mouthwatering cataplana dish in its own cataplana cookware.
