Owner Interview: Effi talks about her cottage near Athens
This villa in Athens Beach has so much going for it - a decent price, a private swimming pool, lush gardens and it makes a great base for exploring the surrounding Greek towns, beaches, historic sites, and Athens. We had a chat with Effi about her cottage and why she fell for the area..
Hi Effi, tell us about your cottage and its location.
Villa Fengaropetra is a cute cottage located between Keratea and Anavyssos - 40 km from the centre of Athens, 20 km from Athens Airport and 6 km from the beach. The house is a 100 square metres with 2 bedrooms, living room, dining room, fully-equipped kitchen and two bathrooms. It is decorated in a homely fashion and supplied with everything you may need for a comfortable holiday (air conditioning, WiFi, TV, DVD player, fire place). The location is pretty unique - the cottage is within an 11 acre estate and it has wonderful panoramic views. Peace and quiet are guaranteed. There's a 12 by 6 metre private swimming pool, sun beds and comfortable sofas under the shade offer enough space to read, listen to music and have a cool siesta.
Perfectly relaxing. Why do you love the area?
The area is an ideal example of a Mediterranean landscape. Olive trees, pine trees, blue sky, sun and the sea ..... Absolute isolation, privacy, relaxation. At the same time, it's just 6 km to the busy beach where you can enjoy water sports, bars, and local tavernas serving exquisite seafood. In 40 minutes you can get to the Acropolis, the Acropolis museum, Plaka, Monastiraki, and the National Archaeological Museum. You can also spend a full day in Athens and then return to cool off by the pool.
Sounds like there's loads to do. Who would you recommend this property?
Villa Fengaropetra is ideal for families with children, couples and groups of friends of all ages. It is best suited to people that prefer a calm, relaxing holiday in a location preferred by locals. Although past guests have been very active in organizing visits to all sites in Attica, excursions to close islands, and road trips to Delphi, Mycenae, Nafplion, etc.
Talk us through your routine for making sure your property is perfect for your guests when they arrive.
Thorough cleaning of the house, the verandas and the pool area is followed by making beds with fresh sheets and decorating according to season and occasion. I put fresh flowers in the vases, a complimentary treat in the fridge and then head off to the airport to meet our guests.
Finally, give us a recommendation for your favourite local activity.
It has to be watching the sunset at the temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion after a swim at the nearby beaches.
