Segun explains why the peaceful province of Canneddi is the place to be in Sardinia
Segun owns a number of apartments in Sardinia. He proudly explains why Canneddi should be at the top of your list for your next Italian getaway.
I bought a place out here - with fantastic sea views, just a few minutes to the beach by foot - many years ago to relax and enjoy nature with the family. Since 2006 I have carefully selected other properties with similar characteristics, most with fantastic sea views and all close to the beach. I work directly with the owners and I know their properties well. In fact, the area, including the land, pine forest and roads behind the gates, is jointly owned by all of us. Sardinia has always discouraged seafront developments and banned it in 2005. Luckily, our community has been here for decades - close to the sea, immersed in nature, in an oasis of calm.
Over the years I've been fortunate to experience waking up to great sea views and going to bed having watched dazzling sunsets from a range of different properties across this area - some properties are a stones throw to the beach where you can hear the sea from your terrace; others, a few minutes walk to the beach, offering panoramic sea views and spectacular sunsets.
You have several properties in Canneddi, what makes this such a great holiday destination?
You can really relax and enjoy nature in this unspoilt naturally beautiful part of Sardinia - it really is an oasis of peace and tranquillity, immersed in nature. We are on the coast, about 300m from the beach and the sea views from most properties are truly panoramic. You can walk to our adjacent beach in just a few minutes and nearby, you'll find many more of the most beautiful sandy beaches in Sardinia. The uniquely red colour of the giant rocks that are typical of this area becomes even more intense at sunset - it creates a mesmerising atmosphere.
The sunsets here are truly spectacular - worth having dinner on the terrace, just to watch the sun go down. Those characteristic red rocks, sculpted by the wind, define this area and give it much of its natural beauty. You can hike across Mediterranean brush vegetation, savour the sight of these giant red rocks and then discover a newly hidden cove or sandy beach, every day!. Take a boat ride, go diving, snorkelling, surfing or just pass time sunbathing on the beach. This area is like the Caribbean but only a few hours away from most European cities.
Someone who is planning a holiday in Sardinia which of your properties would you particularly recommend?
The properties have been carefully selected to make sure that each one is close to the beach, with a sea view and a large terrace suitable for dining out and sunbathing. Therefore, choosing between the properties would be like choosing between your children! They are all cute and unique in their own ways. Some are ideal for romantic getaways for a couple and others are ideal for a larger group or family. Some are closer to the beach than others but they are typically within a 5 to 10-minute walk to the adjacent beach. Some have nice sea views and others have spectacular and panoramic sea views. It really comes down to how many people there are in your group. We have properties that can sleep anywhere between 2 and 7 people in total comfort.
Which restaurant would you recommend people who want to try some traditional Sardinian cuisine in Canneddi?
My absolute favourite restaurant is the Cormorano bar restaurant. Walk across the coast to get there and you'll be pleased. It really is like those beach restaurants in the Caribbean, but this is Sardinia. Enjoy the freshest of produce, excellent fish and other seafood, right on the beach, overlooking the beach and sea.
Of course, there are many more restaurants. Our guests can now get details of all of my favourite restaurants through our GUEST APP.
One of your guest reviews states “This is our third year at Calarossa and as usual everything was great... We plan to return again next year :-)”. What is it about your properties that make people want to return, year after year?
It boils down to the ability to spend a guaranteed 7 to 14 days relaxing and recharging. The properties offer the chance to experience dazzling sunsets and enjoy unforgettable dinners and drinks on your own terrace every day. The quality of the light here is special, the sunsets are spectacular and the sea views down to the coast are amazing. There are numerous beautiful sandy and rocky beaches - some of the best in Sardinia - and amazing natural sights to discover each time you visit. Hire a canoe or kayak or take a boat ride around the tip of the island to discover new private and secluded coves and beaches each trip. We're well positioned for day trips and excursions by boat or by road across Sardinia, especially to places like Stintino, La Maddalena and Costa Smeralda. Or stay nearer to home and explore Castelsardo, Valledoria, Badesi, Trinita' D'agultu, Isola Rossa and other beautiful places nearby.
How does Canneddi compare to other parts of Sardinia?
There are many sides to Sardinia. Many people associate Sardinia with the jet set - yachts, boutique shops and hotels, and private jets. Others might think about the hinterland - sheep, cheese and agriturismo galore.
Our area is all about naturally beautiful beaches, hidden natural spectacles, amazing landscapes and special sea views. Discover new beaches and hiking trails every day. Set out in a canoe or kayak and colonise hidden and private beaches and coves, just for you and your group! Head out with a picnic and relax all day or do something more adventurous, but completely in tune with nature. Go visit nearby towns and villages - experience the culture, art and history. Explore the ancient Nuraghe and other archaeological wonders of this area. The lifestyle here is less about boutiques and shopping centres and more about immersion in the natural world, enjoying the many wonders that nature has endowed this area with. It is more about a more leisurely and traditionally Sardinian pace of life that will leave you completely refreshed at the end of your holiday.
Our location is right down on the coast - private, fairly rural and tranquil - only a short walk to the renowned Marinedda beach area and a short drive to the historic fishing village and port of Isola Rossa. Also, we are in a uniquely convenient location, halfway between the historical-archaeological sites of Aggius-Tempio Pausania and many places not to be missed during a holiday in Sardinia: the La Maddalena Archipelago, Costa Smeralda, Santa Teresa Gallura, Castelsardo, Alghero and Stintino.

What is your favourite part about the area?
This area represents unspoilt. undeveloped, off the beaten track and completely natural Sardinia at its best. You can fully enjoy the best of the natural environment here but still be close enough to the modern world and close to the best cultural and culinary experiences that Italy and Sardinia have to offer.
The area actively encourages you to enjoy nature - the sea views, the glorious sunsets, the beautiful landscape - because you are immersed in it. The other thing, more tangible, is the beaches - we are so close to some of the most beautiful beaches in Sardinia.
The Video
This was created by the Costa Rossa area tourism authority (funded by the local council) to promote the whole area so it extends beyond our area. Facing the sea, to our left we have the Isola Rossa area, to our right we have Costa Paradiso and behind us Trinita D'Agultu. Geographically, we are more or less in the middle of the Costa Rossa coastal areas.
