We had a excellent stay at Villa Constantina. Initially we thought that the Villa might not be in the best location but it was fantastic for pretty much everything! Just 10 minutes out of Chanea and in the quiet village of Megala chorafia away from it all. Megala Chorafia has three tavernas and one mini market. Aptera is an amazing arcahelogical site just 1 km away.

Ta Aptera taverna( 5 mins drive or 15 min walk) is absolutely superb and being Greek my expectation of Greek food is very high. We ending up eating there every day as it was that good, and great value for money. On average we were paying 35 Euros for 4 people. 2 adults 2 children for food with wine and beer. The villa was perfectly suited to drive to beaches and into town. Chanea is very close and has a wonderful charm . Make sure you visit the old town which is situated around a typically Greek port with lots of tavernas and cafes. At night there is great buzz.. Crete is a large island but with a car( which you definetly need to get around) nothing is too much of a drive. The beach at Agio Apostoli ( 15 mins drive) is fantastic for kids and adults alike amazing clear waters and beautiful sandy beach. The waters to swim in are delicious. We also visited Elafonisi which is just paradise on earth. A blue lagoon with crystal clear waters and pink sand. Truly 10/10. I have not seen better beaches even in the Maldives/ Sri Lanka and Thailand. Elafonisi is a 70km drive however but well worth it. Balos is another amazing beach truly out of this world which is about a half hour drive to Kissamos where you can get a boat. Dont try and drive ther on the dirt track unless you have a 4x4 but bear in mind the car park is then 2km from the beach but the walk from the car park to th ebeach is out of this world.Make sure you find out the boat times from Kissamos in advance as ther is only one a day which leaves at about 10.30 am . If you dont fancy driving that far ( but you should) there are so many amazing beaches in Crete you are truly spoilt for choice. The only thing to be aware of is what is called the meltemi or summer winds. These effect some beaches and mean that they can get very wavy. Agio Apostoli beach is unaffected by the Meltemi so you can always go there as its in a small cove. Check out www.greeka.com which I always use when I travel to Greece for a round up of beaches/ tavernas/ places to go  etc so you know what to expect. 

The Villa itself was managed by Stratos the owner, who was lovely man. Nothing was too much to ask . He would bring us his locally produced wine / olive oil tomatoes among other things. The Villa is traditional stone Villa and very spacious. It has 2 living areas downstairs and 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and also a downstairs toilet. From the upstairs you have views of the sea and also from the pool area. 2 doubles and 1 room with 2 single beds. It can easily sleep up to 8 if you use the 2 couches downstairs( day beds) or ask Stratos to provide 2 more single beds. We had some friends, another family of 4 come stay for a few days and it was no trouble at all. The villla has a wonderful outside pool and a bbq  area too. The pool is 1.5 meters deep with no shallow end. 

Overall we had a wonderful stay at the Villa and if you are look for a truly relaxing holiday with or without kids you will have a great time here. I have traveled every year to Greece since I was about 4 so about 36 years now and for some reason I have always avoided Crete as I thought it was too commercial. How wrong I was. Dont get me wrong there are commercial spots you can easily avoid but Crete has some of the best beaches I have ever seen. If you dont believe me look up Elafonis i and Balos beach online. The photos you will see believe it or not dont do the places justice. You wont believe your eyes I promise you. They do get a bit full but never so much that they impinge on your enjoyment. Enjoy your stay we certainly did.

We had an amazing time here!  Not only was the apartment perfect comfortable, clean and well equipt, but the pool and facilities were also fantastic! The location is ideal set back and surrounded by lots of great value local resteraunts but at the same time close enough to the sea front to be able to have a few nice beach days and a couple of great nights out!! We were made to feel really welcome and part of the family too which was a lovely bonus! We would highly reccomend reccomend the apartments ideal for families or groups of friends who want somewhere picturesque, friendly and great value for money!

Nice clean villa, located about 6-7kms from Nafplio and 1km from the nearest small village, so car is required. Very calm and quiet property situated on a hillside with good view and surrounded by orange and olive trees. Excellent pool and poolside facilities. Barbeque available next to pool.
Villa was nice but a bit expensive compared to other  rooms, hotels we found during the same trip. Clean, well equiped and cleaned reguarly by the owner/manager. Air conditioned so cool at night. Good terrace for eating and generally admiring the view over Nafplio and the sea in the distance. Excellent for families. Neighbouring villas at the same location would make the property  ideal for several groups or families who are looking to holiday together but retain their own privacy.

We were not met at the property on arrival as told and had to make numerous phone calls to find out which was ours and where the keys were.
We were greeted with a large rat in the lounge.
The road to the villa was near impassable in places and caused damage to our hire car.
Frequently lost power due to fuses going for no apparent reason.

Escape

Wonderful venue, great food, great people.  Lots of peace and quiet but friendly to the children.  Nice to be out of the way of the busy towns / seafront.  Very comfortable rooms which were clean and had great views.

Only quibble would be with the desciption of the property as a house - suggests there would be cooking facilities / lounge etc included but rather is hotel rooms with bathrooms.

Beautiful house with lots of charm and caracter, nice view over large landscape, nice pool, plenty of space for us (5 people) as there were 3-4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
Everything was working very well, airconditions in every bedroom. Could only have been better cleaned on the floors, but over all a very nice and pieceful place.

Property access needs to be improved. Road being laid.
Lovely views and remote location meant very peaceful.
High standard finish to accommodation, estate will benefit from a little maturing.

A delightful villa with outstanding facilities and the owners could not have done more . The villa exceeded our expectations and we have already recommended it to friends and would most definitely return for another visit.

We recently stayed at the villa Zafira this July (11) and had a wonderful time. The owners Peter and Elena couldnt have been more helpful and had everything ready and sorted ant problems out very promptly. 

The villa itslef is very spacious and plenty of room for my two children (10 and 11) and myself and husband-it was very well stocked so we could easily cook (lovely bbq area that lead onto the pool that overlooked the sea)

The only downsides were the air con was a little expensive (€140 pw) and the villa is too far away from anything so you have to drive at all times (however this has the positive in that it is very quiet-you could count the number of cars you saw on one hand in a day)

I would definitely recommend staying here if you are after a quiet family or couple holiday but do hire a car (and quite a good one-it is pretty hilly around there!) as Skaleta is relatively quiet but the close Rethymyno is only a 15 minute drive and has more to offer
