My wife and I stayed here for 5 weeks Feb 2011.
For what you pay, this place has to be the bargain of all time. Compared with other villas close to where it is at, this place has got what it takes at a price that has to be seen to be beat. Close to the northern end of Hikk, and a number of quality restaurants as well as access to the beach. The truth is that whilst the bungalow offers you all the facilities you need, whilst there is a well stocked kitchen, aside from a kettle you dont need anything else. Food out is cheap enough not to worry how to stretch your budget, we ate out every night and still took money home at the end of the stay (breakfast as well). What it does offer is a washing machine, which when you consider our stay was 5 weeks was something we couldnt do without.
The family Saman, are a very nice typical Sri Lankan family, and with a brother with his own taxi, making trips out all the more easier to sort out, not that you really want to leave the area anyway.
Hikk itself has everything you need with a marvellous market down by the Railway Station, as well as a meat, fish and veg market (if you do want to cook). Plenty of 5* PADI diving to be had, as well as a number of other resort entertainment. They also have a music festival although I cant remember what time of year it is held.
Things to do, use the local trains to visit Columbo, Candy and Gauli, take a river trip and visit one of the national parks. Or simply relax, sit back and read a book (although with a Kindle you can read a UK newspaper daily if you want) or two or three.
I could wax lyrical for ever and a day, but the truth is that even if you only do the usual 2 weeks, including the cost of Air Fair, Sri Lanka is very very doable and compares favourable with any Costa in Spain.
