This villa enjoys a wonderful location in a pretty rural village surrounded by summer sunflowers in the Deux-Sèvres department, Poitou-Charentes, an hour south of Poitiers in western France.
There are some very good restaurants within a short drive, including a great little wine-bar serving excellent food just a five-minute drive away (book in advance!).
The nearest town, Sauzé-Vaussais, is 5km away where you will find a boulangerie, supermarket, bank, pharmacy and a lovely Thursday morning market. There are other atmospheric markets in nearby towns such as Chaunay (18km) on a Monday, Civray (20km) and Lezay (20km) on a Tuesday, Chef-Boutonne (11km) on a Saturday and Ruffec (16km) on a Wednesday and Saturday.
This is a glorious region for walking and cycling with many paths through sunflower fields, woodland and picturesque countryside, plus there is horse-riding in nearby Breuil-Coiffault. There are also beautiful châteaux to explore, such as Château de Javarzay near Chef-Boutonne, and the charming castle in beautiful Verteuil-sur-Charente (22km), a delightful place on the banks of the Charente. History lovers shouldn’t miss the incredible Abbaye de Saint Amant de Boixe (44km), which is over 1000 years old.
Ruffec (16km) is also a town filled with history, on the banks of the Lien river, whilst a little further south-west you will find Nanteuil-en-Vallée (30km), known as a ‘Petite Cité de Caractère’. Here you will find many pretty houses, some dating as far back as the 12th century as well as the beautiful Jardins de l'Argentor, an especially pretty place to explore.
This is also a good area for river sports with a centre near Condac/Rejellant (18km) that offers canoes, kayaks, pedalos and stand-up paddle boarding along the Charente river in the summer months.
Further afield, there are some fantastic towns and cities to explore for the day such as the typical town of Niort (54km), surrounded by the beautiful waterways of the Marais Poitevin, and historic Poitiers (65km) with its 12th century famous church, Notre-Dame-La-Grande.
Heading south, the beautiful city of Angoulême (63km) as well as Cognac (63km) and Jarnac (60km) are great places to visit, especially for lovers of cognac and brandy.
