Calahonda is a small resort town in Mijas district, 30 minutes from Malaga airport. Calahonda’s palm-lined golden sand beach is one of the town’s main attractions, catering to family holidays. But there is a lot more to Calahonda if you look beyond the beautiful coast. Although a modern resort town, remnants of Calahonda’s past can be seen in the Moorish architecture, particularly the ancient watch towers dotted along the coastline, with its rocky cliffs perfect for diving and snorkelling. The livelier resorts of Fuengirola and Marbella are just 15 minutes away in either direction, boasting atmospheric beaches with plenty of modern leisure facilities.
