Tías is a town and district in the central south of Lanzarote, nestled between Yaiza district in the south and San Bartolóme in the north. Less than a 10 minute drive from Lanzarote Airport, Tías district is comprised of a number of scattered hamlets such as Masdache, Conil, La Asomada, Tegoyo and Macher, including Tías town itself. Discover a region of contrasts, from the peace and tranquility of its villages, to the upbeat feel of commercial resort Puerto del Carmen, on the south east coast, and the upscale town of Puerto Calero with its luxury shops and marina. Tías is one of the oldest and most important towns on the island, standing out as an almost perfect mirror image of Lanzarote’s own history and development over the last few hundred years. Boasting a beautiful sun-drenched coastline sprinkled with pretty sandy beaches and colourful whitewashed villages housing traditional historic buildings, Tías offers a perfect mix of authentic Canarian coastal village life and modern city living.
The best way to get to know the old town is to wander around its cobbled old streets crowded with ancient relics such as the pretty 16th century Church of Candelaria and the 19th century San Antonio church. As an important cultural centre in Lanzarote, Tías is home to the local Municipal Theatre, where you can enjoy traditional folklore performances to modern jazz concerts. Learn about the life of Nobel Prize winner Jose Saramago at Jose Saramago House Museum with a library, garden and art gallery.
Stay in one of our villas in Tías and wander the old town's cobbled streets, taking in the authentic atmosphere as you walk by its elegant houses, old churches and quaint squares. As the island's most famous resort, Puerto del Carmen is the main destination for sun-worshippers and party goers, boasting lively beaches and a large cluster of bars, pubs and nightclubs. For adventurous types, Tias' beautiful landscape is perfect for swimming, cycling and running, with bike hire shops along Puerto del Carmen's promenade. Practice your swing at Lanzarote Golf, a new course just outside the resort. For a change of scene, try horse riding at Rancho Texas Lanzarote Park, on the coast, where kids can make a splash in its water pools and slides after watching the animal shows.
If sun and sea are your cup of tea, then the 6km stretch of golden sand beaches, washed by the sparkling Atlantic, should be enough to tempt you. As the island's most famous resort, the bustling Puerto del Carmen on Lanzarote's south east coast is the perfect blend of traditional and modern, boasting all the facilities and attractions one would wish for in a beach holiday. There are three pristine beaches in Puerto del Carmen, where the family-friendly waters along the coast here are considered to be some of the most tranquil in the whole of the Canary Islands, with the two of them flying the Blue Flag. The main beach, running along Avenida de las Playas promenade, is Playa Grande; otherwise known as Matagorda, with its sun loungers, umbrellas and gently curving shoreline, it's ideal for a fun day out with family. Take a 10 minute walk and you'll come to the quieter and more secluded Playa Chica in the Old Town, which is popular with snorkelers and scuba divers. To the east is Los Pocillos beach with plenty of holiday facilities and calm waters, located near Rancho Texas Park.
Discover an abundance of shops and restaurants, the charming old harbour and even a casino on Avenida de las Playas' beach promenade, the beating heart of Tias' nightlife, with its countless outdoor cafes, pubs and nightclubs. Puerto del Carmen is also home to a large number of dive centres and scuba diving is one of the most popular sports here, with perfect sea conditions.
