Hua Hin is a cosmopolitan mixture of city and beach, made fashionable in the 1920s when Thailand’s royal family decided to build their summer palaces here, and still today it remains a weekend escape for the elite of Bangkok.

Well set up for holiday-makers, there are lively markets (including the famous night market) and long, clean beaches. Seafood is inexpensive, and restaurants abundant, yet it retains more of a tranquil, family atmosphere and some traces of its fishing village charm than some other beach destinations in Thailand.

If you fancy a bit more than just relaxing in the sun on the beautiful sweeping beach looking out at the Gulf of Thailand, Hua Hin is well-known for kitesurfing and horse-riding along the beach.
