Tenerife island is the perfect winter sun escape, and the largest of the Canaries. Located in the North Atlantic, off the coast of Morocco, you can expect warm weather all year round. Winds may slightly pick up during winter months, but not in the southern region; and temperatures rarely drop below 20°C. Generally, the south has more tourist amenities than the north. Between Candelaria and Santiago del Teide, there are upbeat bars, sophisticated restaurants, thrilling amusement parks, golf courses, sandy beaches and some of the best holiday villas and apartments for rent.
Flights to Tenerife from the UK take around four and a half hours. Many airlines organise daily flights, and some even several flights a day, especially during summer. Alternatively, a ferry from Huelva to Santa Cruz de Tenerife goes three times a week, but that ride takes 36 hours. There are plenty of options for getting from the airport to your accommodation – bus or taxi transfers, and car rentals. Some owners and agents on Clickstay even organise transportation from the airport to their properties.
Amarilla Golf, Golf del Sur and Oasis del Sur are right against the Costa del Silencio which is, as the name suggests, quiet. Surrounded by several golf courses and fringed with pebbly beaches, the resorts are favourite with holiday makers looking for some quiet time off. On the other hand, Playa de las Américas and Los Cristianos lined along the Costa Adeje are rather vibrant resorts, with sandy beaches, bars, restaurants and night clubs.
South Tenerife flies Blue Flags on 9 of its fine sandy beaches which have plenty of amenities, leisure and water-sport activities. Most of the beaches are along the Costa Adeje, and the most popular are Playa de las Vistas, Playa de Fañabé and Playa del Duque. The beaches in Costa Adeje are connected by a beautiful promenade with restaurants and bars lined along it.
South Tenerife is a golfer's paradise. The connected golf courses surrounding Amarilla Golf, Golf del Sur and Oasis del Sur resorts are arguably the most popular ones on the island. However, Costa Adeje might not agree on that. A couple of beautiful well-maintained golf courses can be found just a stone's throw from La Caleta.
You'll want to see the volcano! Especially if it's your first time visiting Tenerife. Mount Teide reaches 3,718m and is the highest peak in Spain. Apart from that, Corona Forestal Natural Park is a sight to behold, and so are Barranco del Infierno - a ravine in Adeje - and Montaña Chayofita - a volcanic cone in Los Cristianos. If historic sites are more your cup of tea, then all it takes is a short stroll through towns and villages like Arona and San Miguel.
When kids get fed up of frolicking on the beach, maybe it's time to take them to Aqualand or Siam Park; the two aqua parks are among the most popular in Spain. Once they've had enough of that, a trip to Jungle Park and Tenerife Zoo Monkey Park should do the trick. There are many species of animals living in the parks and the staff occasionally even allow kids to feed certain animals.
For some reason, Canarians call buses "guaguas". The public transport is excellent and reaches every corner of this triangular island. Also, it's inexpensive, especially if you use a BONO bus card, which can be shared between people and saves you up to 50% compared to regular ticket prices. Taxis are also good, but cost a bit more. Renting a car is always an option. But most resorts in Tenerife South have amenities at your fingertips, so it's usually not necessary. Some of our owners and agents organise transports from the airport to the property and vice versa. It might be worth inquiring about transfer fares with your owner or agent at Clickstay.
The cuisine here is fantastic! There is a restaurant on almost every corner in the resorts, spanning from well-known fast food joints to more upmarket eateries. There are several that simply stand out. If you find that ambience is an important factor to enjoying food, then look no further than Abama Kabuki. The restaurant's brilliantly designed interior is matched with delicious, oriental dishes. If you don't mind the surroundings as much and are hungry for some traditional Canarian cuisine, visit El Cine. It's a garage turned restaurant and tucked away a bit, so you'll have to put a little effort for this treat. But once you find it, it's very much worth it.
When it comes to nightlife, Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas resorts take the prize. Clubs like Tramps and Papagayo Beach Club are brimming with vibrant clubbers, dusk till dawn. But there are also pubs where you can let your hair down and relax. Magic Lounge Bar, Skybar and Cocktail Lounge Bar Acanto are just few bars along the Costa Adeje with pleasant music and soothing atmosphere.
You can buy anything in South Tenerife, from electronics, fresh fruits and vegetables to fake Louis Vuitton bags and knock-off Rolex watches. Speaking of knock-offs, Los Cristianos street market usually offers the biggest selection of such merchandise. For fresh produce, head to Arona and Adeje street markets. There are also lots of shopping malls, like the Oasis Shopping Centres in Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos. Here you can find everything from footwear, jewellery to dining at bargain prices. The largest shopping centre in Tenerife South is Siam Mall, located next to the park.
