December is great for many things; Christmas, snow, lots of evenings reprimanding yourself for having eaten too much and of course, buying new gaudy baubles. The Canary Islands of Spain have to top the list as one of the best places for a December break, especially Lanzarote! 4. Dominican Republic

Part of the colloquially named ‘coconut coast’, Punta Cana is one of the most rewarding spots in the Dominican Republic. In December you can expect highs of 29°C and that’s more than good enough to enjoy the areas many glorious beaches. 5. Marrakech, Morocco
